Missed Appointments

A missed appointment by a patient on the surface may seem to be a very trivial matter, but upon closer inspection, one recognizes the tremendous impact this action has on the practice. The most obvious problem is that a patient's missed appointment disrupts the flow of patient care for the doctor and staff. More importantly, a missed appointment is a time which could be used to see a patient in need of emergent care. Additionally, to meet the health care goals of the patient and doctor, it is essential to ensure that the patient receive continuity of care to prevent possible complications.

We understand your time is valuable, so we will make every effort to be on time. Our time is also valuable so we expect you to keep your appointment. If you are unable to keep your appointment, we require a 24-hour notice. Any cancellation without 24-hours notice and any missed appointment will result in a charge of $75 for new appointments and $50 for return appointments.

Meet the Staff

Vickie - Office Manager

Doc's wife, Vickie, is more than just the Office Manger. She has a degree in Medical Technology, graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Delaware in 1987. Vickie oversees all facets of the administrative aspects of the office, allowing Dr. Howard to fully concentrate on the latest wound care technologies, surgical techniques and provision of patient care. Doc often states that if Vickie was not around to run the office, he wouldn't be either! Vickie and Howard met while working at the Wilmington VA in 1991. Vickie was working mainly in the microbiology and hematology laboratories while Howard was a resident. Her background at the VA, in addition to working at the A.I. DuPont clinical laboratory, and running a physician-owned laboratory, gives Vickie a well rounded view of all clinical and administrative areas of private practice. They spend almost all of their free time together, enjoying the dogs, cats, gardens and sailing. Vickie's beautiful gardens, which she takes much pride in, can be seen in the photo album in the office.

Jo - Podiatric Medical Assistant, Certified

Jo joined our practice in October 2006 after her husband's company transferred him to Maryland. She was born and raised in England and loves talking about our Veterans of their time over there. In August 2007, she successfully passed her certification exam and is now a Certified Podiatric Medical Assistant. She enjoys taking care of patients in our preventative foot care service, assisting in the procedure room, and performing x-rays. In her spare time she does scrapbooking and spends time with her daughter Ashlie, husband Tim and miniature Schnauzer Max. She also loves horses and used to teach English riding.

Patricia Hogan

Patricia Hogan is an administrative assistant at Harford Lower Extremity Specialists. After she graduated from Edgewood High School, Trish moved to Cumberland. She has since returned to Harford County where she has worked in Dr. Schultheiss' office since April 2010. In her spare time, Trish likes to spend time with her family, especially her daughter, Siarra. She is also an artist; painting, drawing and crocheting are only a few of her talents.

Danielle Eyre - CNA and Patient Assistant

Danielle Eyre is a CNA and patient assistant. Born and raised in Forest Hill, she is a graduate of the Harford Technical High School nursing program. Danielle has worked for over 10 years in the medical field, first at Rock Spring Village Assisted Living and now at HLES since June 2010.

Danielle is also actively involved with the Bel Air Fire Company where she serves as the secretary of the Auxiliary. She has volunteered for the past nine years.

When she is not working and volunteering, Danielle can be found spending time with her son, Ayden, friends and family. Of course, she squeezes in time for favorite football team-the Ravens. She is a die-hard Ravens fan!

Amy Siler - Marketing and Event Coordinator

Amy Siler serves as the marketing and event coordinator for Save A Leg, Save A Life Foundation Maryland Chapter, under Dr. Schultheiss who serves as the Chairman. She is responsible for SALSAL MD chapter meetings, community outreach and fundraising events. Amy is a natural fit because she understands the importance of wound care to prevent lower leg amputations. She has seen first-hand the complications associated with diabetes and peripheral arterial disease.

Amy has worked with non-profit groups over the past ten years. As a Director and Chairman with the Harford County Farm Fair, Inc. she has been instrumental in managing sponsorships and special events. A number of her responsibilities include producing advertising material, coordinating activities and working with media outlets. Amy has also offered interviews and information to promote events. Her experience has also given her the opportunity to present on behalf of different regional organizations.

Amy also coordinates local high school wrestling tournaments at Harford Tech, where her husband, Gary, teaches and coaches. Her daughters, Tori and Kaylee, are usually close by helping out. In her spare time, Amy enjoys relaxing with friends and family. She lists boating, golfing, baking and crafting as some of her favorite activities.
