About Dr. Linh Nguyen Doctor Linh, easier to call than by her last name, was born in Vietnam. Her family escaped during the war when she was 2 and half years old. Her family was sponsored to America when she was 3 years of age. She lived in Columbia, MD most of her life with her parents and 3 younger brothers. In high school, she played field hockey, participated in track and field, and enjoyed weight lifting. She started working in a retirement home for 6 years part-time until her last year in college. After spending so many years helping the elderly and solving problems, Doctor Linh realized that she wanted to work in a field where she can help people one-on-one. She gets a thrill after knowing that she has helped someone. She attended the University of Maryland at College Park majoring in Biology knowing that she wanted to be in the healthcare field. During Doctor Linh's sophomore year in college, she was debating on what occupation she wanted to go into. She was sitting in the library studying and started to daydream about her future. An image of her 6th grade language arts class appeared in her head. She had always sat in front of the classroom and on the chart board was a newspaper cut-out posted. It had a picture of a lady in a white lab coat smelling someone's feet. The article was titled, "Smelling Feet for a Living?" Doctor Linh never read the article nor does she want to smell feet for the rest of her life besides the fact that she does not have a good sense of smell anyhow. But, it got her curious. She then asked a friend if there was such a thing as a foot doctor. He says, "Yes, it's called a Podiatrist!" Doctor Linh started to read about podiatry, the job description as well as the schooling for it. She shadowed 4 local podiatrists and fell in love with the field ever since. Doctor Linh attended Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and earned her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree. She received her one year Podiatric Medicine residency training at the University of Pennsylvania affiliated Presbyterian Medical Center. She then moved to Rhode Island for 2 years to complete her Podiatric Surgical residency training at the Brown University affiliated Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. She specializes in general Podiatric Medicine as well as Foot and Ankle Surgeries. Her interests outside of work include eating exotic foods, cooking, traveling, weightlifting, drawing, outdoors activities such as camping, hiking, and rock-climbing, and attending all kinds of art shows including musical performances, plays, and theater. She enjoys spending time with her wonderful family who supported her throughout the tough journey. She is also very grateful to have her supportive husband whom she credits as being her "rock."
